Stage 2 · Go Global

You’ve proven it works here. Now what?

I help New Zealand B2B tech companies win customers in Australia, the US, the UK and Canada - and reach the capital that follows real revenue. Hands-on execution, not another strategy deck.

Nick Burns
The challenge most NZ tech companies face

You built something good, and there’s a far bigger market waiting.

But getting there feels impossibly risky without the right commercial leadership. Three things stop most companies.

The catch-22

Revenue and capital chase each other

You need international revenue to attract capital. But you need capital to fund international growth. Round and round.

My job is to break the loop.

The skills gap

NZ trains you to sell the wrong way

New Zealand is a small, relationship-led market. Selling into Australia, the US, the UK or Canada needs a different playbook, and most founding teams are never trained for it.

The cost of waiting

Every quarter you wait, a competitor moves

The cost of delaying international entry is almost always higher than the cost of getting the right help now.

The question I get asked most

“Isn’t this what NZTE does?”

Partly, and you should absolutely use them. NZTE helps over 5,000 New Zealand exporters a year, with more than 750 people across 54 offices, and it costs you nothing to be a customer.

NZTE opens doors. I close the deals that come through them.

They will give you market intelligence, introductions and, if you make the Focus portfolio, access to co-investment.

What they will not do is sit in your Tuesday pipeline review, coach your rep through a stalled deal in Sydney, or rewrite your pitch the night before the meeting.

Most of my clients use both. If you’re already working with NZTE, bring that to the call - it usually makes the first 90 days faster, not slower.

How it works

Fractional CRO leadership that actually closes deals

Questions

Going offshore, specifically

The general questions about how I work, what it costs and what you’re committing to are on the work with me page.

What stage do we need to be at?

You should have product-market fit in New Zealand, meaning paying customers who love what you do, and enough revenue and runway to fund a genuine push offshore. It works best with a committed internal owner and the intent to build something repeatable, not to chase one deal offshore.

You don’t need it all figured out. If you’re not sure, the scorecard will tell you, and it will tell you honestly if the answer is not yet.

Which market should we start in?

For most New Zealand companies, Australia: close, culturally legible and cheap enough to get wrong. I’ve also sold into the US, the UK and Canada, and the right first market depends on your product, your proof and how you sell.

The US is the biggest market, not the best first one. It’s the most competitive, the most expensive to serve from here and the least forgiving of a vendor with no local references. Win in Australia and you arrive in the US with proof instead of hope. I’ve written about how to choose.

What is the Expansion Blueprint?

The paid first step for most Go Global engagements: a written report on all four foundations (are you ready, which market first, how you’ll win there, and whether you can afford it) plus a readout call, in about seven days. The price, what’s included and the guarantee are on the work with me page.

How is Go Global different from Grow?

Same discipline, harder conditions. Grow builds a sales engine that works without you in the room. Go Global takes that engine into a market where nobody knows your name, the buying process is different, and your New Zealand references carry less weight.

Go Global also includes the full Global Growth OS and runs a three-month initial term rather than 30 days, because a market entry needs a run at it.

The first conversation costs nothing

Ready to take international expansion seriously?

I take a maximum of four embedded clients at a time, across both stages. If it might be a fit, the next step is an honest, no-pressure conversation.

Not ready to go offshore yet?

Fix the engine at home first. It makes the offshore move considerably easier. See how Grow works.
